Driver charged with felony of operating under the influence

Vehicular accidents may happen for many reasons, including vehicle malfunction, driver negligence and texting while driving. A car accident often results in physical injuries and property damage, but when a pedestrian is injured in a car accident, the outcome can be tragic.

Such is the case for one pedestrian in Massachusetts, who was recently hit by an alleged drunk driver. The 30-year-old man, who was struck while walking one evening, was airlifted to a Boston hospital for treatment of his injuries. The victim's condition was unknown at the time of a recent report.

A 60-year-old South Dennis man was taken into custody for the accident. He was later charged with operating under the influence of alcohol. According to court paperwork, the man also faces a felony charge of operating under the influence and negligent driving.

The drunk driver was held at Yarmouth Police on $5,000 bail before pleading innocent. His next hearing is scheduled for March 8. This was his third arrest for driving under the influence, which means that this problem should have been avoided had the man learned his lesson a while ago. There is no information on his blood alcohol content.

Drivers need to take more responsibility for the potential consequences of their reckless actions. There is never a good excuse for driving drunk, because it endangers everyone's safety. The victim could file a lawsuit against the drunk driver to help cover many of his medical costs.
