Our Attorneys Can Seek Damages for Your Injury

A dog bite or other animal attack can be a terrifying ordeal — it can also cause serious injury, scarring or disfigurement. You may require cosmetic procedures in addition to your other medical care. Fortunately, you have resources to help you recover. An experienced personal injury lawyer can help you seek the compensation you need.

At Rawson Merrigan & Litner, LLP we understand the serious nature of dog bites. Our attorneys have more than 75 years of combined personal injury experience. We work with doctors and medical experts to prove the facts of your injury and to help you get the compensation you deserve. For a free consultation, please call our Boston or Greenfield offices at 617-830-1219.

Who Is Liable for the Attack?

According to Massachusetts law, the owner of the dog is liable, unless the person who was attacked was "committing a trespass or other tort, or was teasing, tormenting or abusing such dog" at the time of the attack. Children under the age of seven are exempt from those exceptions.

If you were bitten in the course of your job, you will probably be able to file a workers' compensation claim with your employer. In addition, you may be able to sue the dog owner for damages.

Recovery for Your Losses

People who are bitten by dogs can sustain a range of injuries, from simple bite wounds to serious injury and disability. In many cases, attack victims have facial scarring that require cosmetic surgery. It is also possible for a large, strong dog to crush bones in an arm, hand, leg or foot. A severe attack can even cause wrongful death.

We can seek compensation for your medical costs, as well as pain and suffering and, in some case, punitive damages.
